International Students of Wuhan Textile University Won the 2023 ISFS Award in the First International Folk Gift Fashion Innovation Design Competition

On June 10, 2023, the 2023 ISFS Award of the ‘First International Folk Gift Fashion Innovation Competition’ announced the contest winner. The International Shanghai Fashion Season (ISFS) award aims to promote culture and people-to-people bonds through fashion socks design. The competition encourages international students who are studying or have graduated from Chinese universities to explore and interpret the folk cultural elements of various countries.

A total of 28 universities and 227 international student designs from 53 countries signed up for the competition. Based on the evaluation criteria of the contest and the experts' consideration, the designs of 45 designers from 20 universities and 31 countries were shortlisted for the final contest. Among the shortlisted designers, 5 international students were selected from the School of Fashion, Wuhan Textile University. After the design development and production process, on June 1, the final review meeting of the 1st ISFS Award of International Folk Gifts Innovative Design Contest was held at Donghua University. In the final winner announcement, Wuhan Textile University’s international student from Bangladesh, Taofir Ibne Tas Shuvo’s (舒沃) design has been selected for the ‘Best Design Award’ with the ‘Nakshi Embroidery and Folk Art’ theme. Also, another 4 international students from Pakistan, Aashir Iqbal (阿希尔·伊克巴尔), Maham Tariq (马哈姆), Pakeeza Asif Ali (帕扎基) and Isra Majid (以色列) selected for the ‘Cultural Exchange Award’. As well as the School of Fashion’s foreign faculty Dr. S M Minhus (米汉斯), has also been selected for the ‘Excellent Tutor Award’, and Wuhan Textile University has been selected for the ‘Best Organizing Award’.

Over the years, since the enrollment of international students, the School of Fashion has focused on students' practice-based educational systems with a cross-cultural environment to cultivate international talent. The design competition is not only a platform for educational and creative achievements but also a window for foreign cultural exchanges.WTU School of Fashion has encouraged international students to set up a competitive mindset with an international vision of cross-cultural communication ability and advanced innovation ability to promote the understanding of University and Chinese culture. Since 2015, international students have participated in different fashion design competitions and won awards in succession.
